Richmond is a serene and laidback town where all the conveniences of city life are available without all the noise and various stresses that comes with it. Here you’ll find trees lined with oak trees and beautifully restored homes and buildings from the 1940s to the 1960s. Located in Fort Bend County 15 miles southwest of Houston and 50 miles from the Gulf Coast, Richmond is a place where the push and pull of traditional country and cosmopolitan city create an interesting, well-balanced living environment for its residents. According to the most recent census estimates, Richmond is home to over 11,703 people. The average cost of living here is 2.80% lower than the average rate from all the combined regions in the U.S.

Named after Richmond, England, it is classified as a large city complex and is the county seat of Fort Bend County. It holds a vast majority of local government offices as well as nonprofit organizations.
A town fueled by its rich and colorful history, downtown Richmond is a treasured historical district that contains numerous parks and museums that actively engage tourists and locals about what life was in the town’s past. There are plenty of historical parks and museums such as the George Ranch Historical Park, Fort Bend County Museum and the DeWalt Heritage Center that hold numerous events and exhibitions every year.
Richmond’s government buildings are beautifully preserved, with some of the buildings repurposed like Richmond’s historic old jail which now serves as the town’s police department.
Schools
Richmond has seven elementary schools and six high schools managed by the Lamar Consolidated Independent School District and the Fort Bend Independent School District.
You’ll also find George Country Library in Richmond. This is Fort Bend County’s central library and it spans over 6 acres with over 77,000 square feet of library facilities, including the Fort Bend County Law Library.
