Stafford is a vibrant metropolitan community that’s often characterized as one of the friendliest places in Texas. Considered to be an ideal place to raise a family, it is one of the fastest growing cities in the state due to the numerous employment opportunities available in the area. Jobs actually outnumber the number of residents here by the thousands. Stafford has been hailed as the “Shangri-La for property owners” by the Wall Street Journal and has also been called “the best kept secret” by The Fort Bend Star. This is primarily because the city doesn’t have property taxes – in fact, it calls itself the “city with no property taxes.” This has made it a strategic place to launch and grow a business as well as an ideal place to buy a home, especially for first-time homebuyers looking for the best value for their money and for individuals looking for a great place to retire.
Stafford has over 35.6 of open space for public use allotted for parks, sports facilities (basketball courts, soccer fields and softball fields) playgrounds, gathering spaces for families such as picnic areas as well as trails for jogging and biking. One of the parks that sees the most number of visitors is Stafford City Park, which is the largest in the city and spans over 16 acres.
The city boasts two performance and event venues of significant size – the Stafford Centre and Stafford Civic Center. The former is located on a 43-acre site that encompasses more than 28 acres of open space (the festival fields) and includes a performing arts theater with 1,100 seats and a convention center with a 20,000-sq.-ft. ballroom and several meeting rooms. As for the Civic Center, it has a stage and auditorium as well as a variety of other facilities.
Stafford maintains a pool along with a sand court for beach volleyball, which you’ll find near the Civic Center.
The Stafford Municipal School District is the sole municipal school district in Texas – meaning it’s being run by the city itself and not by an autonomous school board. It has one primary (PreK-1), one elementary (2-4), one intermediate (5-6), one middle (7-8), and one high school (9-12). There’s also an alternative education center.
